Description

A revered single malt distillery in Campbeltown that has operated since 1828. It is today owned by J&A Mitchell & Co who produce three single malt styles there. These are its flagship two-and-half times distilled Springbank, a heavily-peated malt known as Longrow, and the triple-distilled Hazelburn. A mighty Springbank bottled for the distillery's Virtual Open Day in 2020, drawn from two refill bourbon hogsheads distilled back in 1993. Just 432 bottles were produced, making this a very rare chance to taste a quarter-century-old expression from Campbeltown's cult distillery.

Nose
Delicate and impressive depth on the nose. Initially dusty and notes of wet sand. A bit closed but opens up nicely showing a slightly peaty side before going fruity. Quite some brine in there as well. The fruits, some tropical and citrus ones are struggling a bit to come through but give this time and you will be rewarded. All in all quite vibrant for a 25yo+ whisky.
Palate
Balanced and rich flavors. Quite potent on arrival, peat, overripe apples and pears, honey, cask spices... Ginger and pepper, a little salty, the peat linger along with a nice malty finish.
Finish
Elegant long-lasting aftertaste. The peat lingers along with a nice malty finish.
