Description

Having been in specialist and craft Scotch Whisky production for generations, Douglas Laing originally exported blends, but now carries the family name down the line by focusing on bottling exceptional single malts and grains as part of their Old Particular, Provenance and XOP ranges. They also enjoy huge success with their "Remarkable Regional Malts" range; a series of creatively named vatted malts. This is a 21 year old whisky from the Springbank distillery, distilled in October 1996 and bottled in March 2018 from one refill hogshead (DL12379) as part of the Douglas Laing's XOP collection. It is a limited edition of 332 bottles.

Nose
Malty. Subtle but complex. Industrial oils. Machine shop. Black tea. Cardamom. Sweet as well. Brown sugar sweet. Sea salt. That seaweed that they wrap around sushi that I can't remember the name of right now.
Palate
Thick and creamy mouthfeel. A bit oily as well. Salted caramel. Toffee. Milk chocolate. Peanut brittle. And then some of the machine shop oil. Or whatever the equivalent in human edible terms is. Some sulfur, in a nice funky Springbank way. Malty now. Overripe apples. Leather. More funky and industrial as it opens with air.
Finish
Medium long finish. Peppery now. Cinnamon. Oaky. Cedar.
