Description

This is the sixth release in Starward's Ginger Beer Cask series, an experimental project that has become a beloved batched edition. This 4-year-old Australian single malt whisky was distilled in 2017 and bottled in 2021 at 48% ABV. It was initially matured in Apera fortified wine and red wine barrels, then finished for six months in casks that previously held Starward's own brewed ginger beer. The ginger beer recipe, a closely guarded secret, includes large amounts of ginger, lemongrass, and citrus peel. This limited release offers a full-flavor, enjoyably spicy expression. Starward Distillery is located in Melbourne, Australia, and is known for maturing its whiskies in Australian red wine barrels, utilizing local ingredients and Melbourne's variable climate for accelerated maturation.

Nose
Ginger, orange & dark chocolate. Bright and zesty notes of candied orange, plenty of fiery ginger. Cinnamon gum and clove rock, cooked apple, orange peel, clear ginger notes.
Palate
Strong spicy ginger, fresh vanilla & pineapple, balanced by sweet raisins and fig. Ginger packs some heat with warming spice balanced by bold vanilla and juicy notes of tropical fruit. Banana fritters, more ginger and cinnamon, a hint of caramel and mint leaf. Zesty and full of orange peel, pineapple and ginger.
Finish
A big warming mouth-feel with candied ginger and citrus. Crystalised ginger, dried orange peels, wafts of sticky toffee pudding follow toasty oak and gently prickling heat. Fiery ginger lasts for minutes, mellowed by toffee and orchard fruit. A touch of citrus, gingerbread and fruit and nut chocolate.
