Nose
Elegant and layered, with dried fruit, prune, soft peat smoke, leather, nutmeg, and sherry-soaked oak. Malty aroma with hints of fruit salad, berries, and plantains. Also woody notes of incense, agarwood, sandalwood, and candle waxiness, with aromatic smoke, florals, jasmine, orris, vanilla citrus, cereals, butter, five spice, anise, kinako, kuromitsu, leathery, tobacco leaf, and maltose candy.
Palate
Rich and well-rounded, offering dark chocolate, dried berries, and a hint of espresso. Balanced by malt sweetness and gentle spice. Notes of vanilla, blood oranges, whipped cream, and milk chocolate. Honey herbal candy, syrupy, black pepper, waxiness, musky lacquered agarwood, sandalwood, cedar, richly malty, butterscotch, caramel custard, ripe dried candied fruit (dates, figs, ginger candy), buttery, mint jelly, fennel, orange blossoms, vanilla, light black tea astringency, umami, beeswax, and burnt toast. Mild mouthfeel with grainy richness from malt and mature sweetness from oak.
Finish
Smooth and persistent, with lingering oak, cocoa, and a whisper of smoke. Bittersweet oak, cocoa, and fruit. Medium length, with muskiness and waxiness alleviating to reveal fresher notes of apple pie stuffing, candied ginger, eucalyptus, and a slight umami-savouriness. Deep estery scent.
