Description

A single malt distillery on the Isle of Skye and for many years the only producer on the island. Part of the Diageo portfolio, its single malt has become one of the company's best-selling brands in recent years and it is also an important contributor to blends such as Johnnie Walker. This Talisker 1981 Natural Cask Strength 20 Year Old is widely regarded as one of the finest Taliskers ever released, garnering 95 points from Jim Murray and the comment 'Miss this and your life will be incomplete'. It was bottled in 2002 and is a limited edition.

Nose
Very rich and complex with matured sherry, spicy oak, and fruits like banana, mango, prune, and cherry. Notes of coffee, chocolate, shoe polish, rubber, and herbs are present, alongside the characteristic sea salty, peppery, and peaty Talisker character. Lightly toasted, salted scents of sea breeze, malt, and oak, with hints of honey, fried bread, roasted almonds, and oil. Pungent balsamic reduction, burnt salt, and red fruit on the stove, with rich woods and cinnamon sticks.
Palate
Extremely powerful yet smooth, with honey-sweet sherry, peat, huge oak, citruses, and leather perfectly marrying with the salty, peppery Talisker character. Ash, smoke, phosphorus, and sulfur notes are present. Warming, semisweet, and almost fruity, becoming slightly briny, intensely oaky, and flat-out sweet. Balanced with smoke, salt, leather, wood, and an oatmeal character with dried cherry. Huge and delicious, with peat and sherry merging to create a unique, cakey, grassy flavor.
Finish
Long, with perfect woody flavors and ash remaining. Hot-wired, lively, and luscious, with waves of peat and smoke, mint, and green herbs.
