Description

Launched in 1997, the Distillers Edition is a 'finished' range from Diageo, seeing the Classic Malts enhanced in carefully chosen wine casks. This Talisker 1993 Distillers Edition is a limited release bottling that offers an alternative view of the distillery's character. It was double-matured, first in American and European oak casks, and then finished in Jerez Amoroso sherry casks. This process creates an older, sweeter, and richer experience than regular bottlings, with a special bitter-sweet harmony where the peat softens on the palate to a rich, sweet, juicy fruit finish. It is bottled at 45.8% ABV.

Nose
Salty sea spray, bonfires, and raisin-like sweetness, with notes of dark chocolate, cappuccino, gingerbread, and creme caramel. There are also hints of slate, salinity, iodine, apple crisp, vanilla, light smoke, apples, oranges, dry sherry, and mineral peat.
Palate
Full-bodied and oily, with a creamy texture. It offers plenty of peat, sticky dates, peppery spice, and a touch of salt. Flavors of rich fruit crumble (plum), smoke, tar, and sweet-centred liqueur chocolate are present, alongside woody spiciness, roasted fig, sweet date, and sea salt. Vanilla, subtle Turkish delight, and a characteristic Listerine pepperiness mingle with orange and apple, balanced by dry sherry.
Finish
Long and luscious, with a ripe-dry balance culminating in toastiness. It features lingering peat smoke, cocoa nibs, and soft smokiness, with notes of ginger, vanilla, and earthy peat. The finish is sweet with dry nuances, and a hint of peppermint.
