SlowtrainSoda15 AugI like having the Oloroso Sherry Hogshead Cask named plainly. The notes point to a sweet direction, with caramel and butterscotch leading toward apple, raisins, and sweet oak. That sounds appealing, though perhaps a little sweetness-forward for my taste.
There’s a clear thread from ripe fruits and spices on the nose to creamy caramel, butterscotch and walnuts on the palate, then apples, raisins and sweet oak on the finish. That shift from confectionery richness toward fruit and oak is the part that most suits my preferences. The supplied notes suggest a rounded, coherent character, with enough movement across the stages to keep the sweetness from feeling one-note.
