Description

A Scottish malt whisky distillery on the Isle of Mull, originally established as Ledaig back in 1798. This is a special edition single cask bottling of Tobermory, distilled in 2000 and bottled as a 20-year-old in 2020 without colouring or chill filtration to celebrate the 222nd Anniversary of the distillery's founding. This release was matured for 20 years, firstly in European oak, before being transferred to sherry casks for a 2-year finishing period. It was an edition of 222 bottles from a single sherry butt cask, bottled at 46.3%.

Nose
Rich and warm with treacle and golden syrup, mulled wine, nutmeg and Christmas spices with walnuts, sultanas and dates. Hints of vanilla, light sherry influence imparting raisin and fig, a touch of spent match, prune juice, spiced orange, cacao powder, salty sea shells, wet corks, and old leather bound books.
Palate
Deep rich oak with caramelised oranges and old fashioned marmalade. Notes of vanilla, dried fruits, hazelnuts and dark chocolate. Salted chocolate, yellow plum, toffee and ginger. Surprisingly earthy with mulched leaves, Maitake mushrooms, chocolate pralines, slight mineral oil, nutmeg, and a hint of Chinese five spice.
Finish
Long, sweet, nutty and oaky with lingering confit apricot and orange notes. Buttered scones and basil leaf. Subtle minerality, earthiness, and cacao, with salted caramel hot chocolate and butterscotch.
