Description

A historic bottling of Tobermory from the eponymous distillery on the Isle of Mull. This contains some of the first spirit to be made at the distillery when it reopened in 1972. Matured in sherry casks, this is a classic example of a long-aged sherried whisky. A limited edition of only 650 bottles.

Nose
Intense, heavily sherried, with waves of dark chocolate, tobacco, liquorice, black cherries, roasting chestnuts, old leather, cocoa powder, and stewed prunes. Hints of old oak, new humidor, wax polish, roasted pecans, walnuts, heavy toffee, and a tiny touch of new plastic.
Palate
Rich and luxurious, very oaky, extractive, and spicy. Notes of bitter dark chocolate, coffee, cherry liqueur, powerful oak, cloves, treacle toffee, and spicy dried black fruits. Also roasted chestnut, oily walnut, dry oak, cherry, redcurrant, thick treacle, and cracked black pepper.
Finish
Extremely long, dry, tannic, and spicy, with bitter oranges, a slightly smoky salt tail, and chocolate-covered raisins bringing a balancing sweetness.
