Description

Tomintoul Distillery - built in 1965 and purchased by Whyte & Mackay in 1973 - is located inside the picturesque Glenlivet estate, within the whisky-producing region of Speyside. The distillery is named after the nearby village of Tomintoul, the highest village in the Highlands of Scotland. Now owned by Angus Dundee, the distillery produces mature spirit for blends as well as releasing their own single malts. Tomintoul has upped the age on the Portwood Finish from 12 to 15 for this limited release. Full bodied and rich with lots of red-fruit notes, this is a very approachable yet complex whisky.

Nose
Delightful aroma. Bramble and red cherry fruit notes mingled with toasted brioche and amoretti biscuit. Blueberries, clotted cream, scones, peppery oak and tobacco.
Palate
The initial rush of peat and wood smoke is followed by a gentle sweetness with hints of spice. Layers of cherry Bakewell, dark fruits and marzipan followed by clove and pink peppercorn spices. Barley sweets, caramel, quince, light wafts of red wine and Chewits.
Finish
Teasing, heathery, delicious. Warming and toasty with soft nougat and dried cranberry leading into peppery wood spices. Zesty, damson, red grape and a hint of butterscotch candies.
