Description

The Wakatsuru 10 Year Old Moon Glow First Release is a blended Japanese whisky from the Wakatsuru Shozou Distillery in Toyama, Japan. The distillery, which obtained a license to distill whisky in 1953, is known for producing small amounts of whisky. This 'First Release' is part of the Moon Glow series, which was commercialized in 2018, and was a category winner for Blended Limited Release at the 2018 World Whiskies Awards. It features malt and grain whiskies, with the youngest component aged for 10 years, and some whiskies aged up to 20 years. Only 6,000 bottles were released as a Japan-only exclusive.

Nose
Complex yet not overwhelming, with salty, briny, and floral notes. Hints of sweetness appear under an earthy, salty exterior, along with iodine, herbal notes, and campfire ash.
Palate
Bright and peaty with hints of smoked meat and salty sea breeze. It is vegetal and earthy, with a mild sweetness like candy or honey, dry peat, orange peel, a hint of spice, and good tannins. It is a soft and well-balanced whisky.
Finish
Clean, crisp, and smooth, with a medium to long duration. Notes of marzipan and vanilla give way to drier, smokier notes, and a spicy aftertaste.
