Description

An American single cask malt from the Westward distillery, distilled on the 22nd of March 2018. This was then matured for 5 years in new American Oak before being bottled at 50% ABV by The Heart Cut. This is the seventh release from independent bottler The Heart Cut, crafted in Portland, Oregon, and limited to 396 bottles. It is non-chill filtered and has no caramel colouring.

Nose: Fantastically fruity with peach, passion fruit, toasted coconut, vanilla, marmalade, oak spice, almond, and a hint of chocolate truffle.
Palate: Juicy and sweet, featuring tropical notes of passion fruit, pineapple, ripe mango, caramelised banana, and fresh peach. Rich vanilla, panettone sweetness, toasted nuts, cocoa, and a bright flicker of bitter orange are also present, with hints of ginger cake, cherry juice, and waxy citrus.
Finish: Long and warming with plenty of oaky grip, mint, caramel, clove, butterscotch, candied almonds, and a touch of pepper and bitter orange peels.

The tropical fruit and peach bring plenty of sweetness, while bitter orange and oaky grip keep things from turning into a dessert parade. That contrast suits me.
