Description
The WhistlePig The Boss Hog Samurai Scientist is the sixth edition in The Boss Hog series. This 16-year-old straight rye whiskey, distilled in Canada, is notable for being the first American whiskey finished in Japanese Umeshu barrels. It is a single barrel, barrel-proof release, inspired by Jōkichi Takamine, the 'Samurai Scientist' who pioneered koji fermentation. Each bottle is adorned with a pewter stopper representing Takamine's family heritage. The whiskey was finished in umeshu-seasoned barrels from Kitaya brewery on Japan's Kyushu island, after previously holding rye whiskey.
