Description

A 50 Year Old blended whisky from Whyte & MacKay released to mark the company's 175th Anniversary (1844-2019). This prestigious expression has been matured for 50 years in a combination of ex-Bourbon barrels, Matusalem oloroso Sherry butts, Tawny Port pipes and ex-30 Year Old Apostoles Sherry butts. It was bottled in 2019 at 44.6% ABV. This limited edition release was primarily distributed through a promotional competition, making it highly sought after by collectors.

Nose
There are little waves of black currants, blueberries, dusty books, mahogany, raspberry jam, creme de cassis, port wine, raisins, figs, strawberry purée, sunripened raisins. It also has that unmistakable smell of dunnage warehouses.
Palate
A cloying yet soft treacle texture coats the mouth. Dark and aged flavours of tobacco leaf, dark honey, black treacle, dark chocolate (fruit and nut), Brazil nuts, demerara sugar, shortbread, rich black cherries and coffee.
Finish
My mouth is still watering long after each little sip has gone down.
