Description

Wire Works Whisky from White Peak Distillery is Derbyshire's very first Single Malt. Commissioned in early 2018 with the first distillation taking place in April that year, it wasn't until February 2022 when their first Wire Works Whisky was released. The "Wire Works" name comes from the sight of the distillery, as it's built on the former Johnson & Nephew wire works on the banks of the river Derwent. This Virgin Oak Finish is a vatting of lightly peated single malt whisky initially matured in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels and then finished for several months in virgin American oak barrels with a range of toast and char levels.

Nose
Leather mingles with caramelised brown sugar and bonfire-toffee, spiced by cinnamon buns and vanilla fudge. Banoffee notes, orchard fruit, boiled sweets, raisins and a whisper of nutmeg.
Palate
Silky milk chocolate and warm spice lead the palate, framed by sandalwood and pistachio. Mace, peppercorn and cinnamon weave through prune and citrus zest, with hints of overripe banana and orange marmalade. Bitter black tea and cigar box lend gravity, while raw honey and desiccated coconut round out a lingering, toasted finish.
Finish
Crème brûlée and butter icing echo through a warm orchard finale of baked apple and fresh cherries, as toasted wood and smoke linger, sharpened by mace and clove for a softly spiced, comforting finish.
