Description

This Yamazaki was matured in oloroso sherry casks, and is composed of whisky aged up to 25-years-old, all vatted together by chief blender Shinji Fukuyo. The oldest single malt whisky distillery in Japan, founded in 1923 by Shinjirō Torii. Nose
Intense and complex aromas of dried fruits (raisins, figs, dates), rich sherry influence with hints of dark chocolate and espresso, subtle oak spices (cinnamon, nutmeg), a touch of leather, roasted nuts, and a whisper of smoke. Also coffee, brown sugar, and a borderline tomato-like savory note.
Palate
Full-bodied and velvety texture with deep flavors of dark cherries, prunes, and Christmas cake. Rich cocoa, bitter dark chocolate, and espresso, spiced notes of clove, black pepper, and sweet oak. Balanced sweetness with hints of molasses and brown sugar, along with sun-dried fruits, chocolate covered nuts, and marzipan.
Finish
Long, lingering, and warm with persistent dried fruit sweetness and a touch of nuttiness. A pleasant mix of oak, dark chocolate, and spice, often described as bittersweet, sour, and savory with notes of umami, exotic woods, and pepper.
