Aberlour A'Bunadh, Batch No. 44, Oloroso Sherry Cask, 2012, 59.7%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

89 / 100

Rich sherry and dried-fruit notes meet dark bitter chocolate, ginger, and oak, so the sweetness has a firm counterweight rather than taking over. Orange and black cherry add a brighter fruit edge, while the described long, warm finish keeps the spices and tannic oak in view. It sounds concentrated and forceful; that balance is appealing, though the robust intensity may be less suited to someone seeking a lighter, gentler malt.
