Balblair 100° Proof 10 Year Old, 1965, Gordon & MacPhail, 57.1%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

87 / 100

The dark chocolate, raisins and date pudding give this Balblair a rich, dessert-like direction, with orange and vanilla as a brighter counterpoint. On the palate, bitter chocolate and mocha meet fruit and spice, then the long finish shifts toward drying licorice and oak. That movement from sweeter notes to a drier close gives it shape. It sounds better suited to someone who enjoys layered, weightier flavours than a particularly gentle, simple style.
