Balblair 1999 1st Release Travel Retail 17 Year Old, Bourbon & Sherry Cask, 2016, 46%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

85 / 100

The green apple and citrus on the nose give this a bright start, while honey, vanilla and chocolate bring a sweeter, richer counterpoint on the palate. Heather is the most intriguing detail for me: it adds a gentle herbal note without taking over. The long finish, with citrus, soft spice and dried fruits, sounds satisfying, though I’d be more persuaded by a clearer sense of how those flavours balance than by the broad claim of complexity.
