Ballantine's 15 Year Old, Oak Cask, 40%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

84 / 100

The citrus thread gives this blend a clear shape. Orange peel and citrus zest lead on the nose, with honey and vanilla alongside. On the palate, caramel and light spice add a warmer counterpoint to the bright citrus. The medium, fresh, slightly zesty finish keeps the overall impression lively rather than heavy. I like the relationship between the sweet notes and the citrus; neither seems to take over. The balance sounds appealing, though the character comes across as more measured than bold.
