Bowmore Gold Reef, Bourbon Cask, 2014, 43%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

85 / 100

The appeal is in the contrast: vanilla, coconut milk and baked peach on the nose lead into juicy tropical fruit, but the palate brings tangy peat, sea salt and olive oil into the mix. That keeps the sweetness from feeling one-note. The orange-mango finish with light peat sounds coherent, though the salty, oily edge may make this less of a straightforward fruit-led dram. A distinctive balance, rather than a spice-led one.
