Bowmore Wine Cask Matured 16 Year Old, Bourbon & Bordeaux Wine Cask, 2008, 53.5%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

89 / 100

The Bourbon and Bordeaux wine-cask detail is a welcome point of interest, alongside a nose of rich fruit cake and butterscotch with zesty, tarty peatiness. Sweet spice and sea salt keep the palate from reading as purely rich, while ripe berries meet Bowmore smoke on the finish. The contrast between sweet fruit, salt and peat gives it a clear shape; that long berry-and-smoke finish sounds especially appealing.
