Bruichladdich Private Cask Bottling 12 Year Old, Rivesaltes Hogshead Cask, Cask #455, 2010, J E Cockayne, 62.5%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

84 / 100

The red grapes, honey and caramel syrup give the spice a sweet counterpoint, while black pepper and nutmeg bring a firmer edge on the palate. That balance is appealing, though the finish sounds less settled: it is described as short, dry and bitter. Water changes the picture, softening the spices and bitterness while bringing out fruit. A thoughtful, contrast-led character, with a reservation around the finish neat.
