I usually hunt for heavy peat smoke and charcoal from Islay, but this unpeated 28-year-old from the Maltman shows a different side of the island. It's very fruit-forward and clean for its age. While I miss the iodine and sea salt punch, the depth of the fruit sponge cake on the palate is respectable. A very mellow, well-aged dram that focuses on elegance rather than the ash I typically prefer.
