Bunnahabhain Kinship Edition No. 1 Feis Ile 30 Year Old, Sherry & American Oak Cask, 1989, Hunter Laing, 48.5%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

86 / 100

The dried fruit, sweet sherry and rich oak on the nose set up a rounded direction, while sea salt and the palate’s peat, smoke and spices give it a firmer edge. Creamy vanilla, strawberries and cream, honey nut cereals and rich toffee make the palate sound generous, but “firm, powerful” suggests it isn’t especially delicate. Stewed berries, ginger, spiced oak and salted caramel carry that warmth through the long finish. There’s plenty to engage with, though it doesn’t sound like an especially light style.
