Caol Ila Whisky Sponge 12 Year Old, Hogshead Cask, Edition No., 2007, Whisky Sponge, 48.5%

88 / 100

The green olive brine and lingering salinity give this smoky Islay a welcome coastal edge. Sweet fruit and peat share the space rather than cancel each other out. It sounds layered and warming, though the busy mix of smoke, tar and fruit may be more than I want every time.
