Dailuaine Rare Malts Selection 22 Year Old, Oak Cask, 1996, 61.8%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

89 / 100

there’s a pleasing balance here between the rounded fruit and the drier, more savoury edges. stewed pear, orange peel and caramel meet oak and wax on the nose; the palate’s gristy malt and tart citrus keep it from feeling too sweet. the long finish, with wood spices, grapefruit and anise, gives the character a measured, gradual close. a layered single malt that sounds especially appealing for its restraint rather than sheer richness.
