There’s a pleasing tension here between the juicy fruit and tart green apple on the nose, then the drier, herbal side on the palate. Anise gives the spice a distinct note, while malt and shortbread keep things from feeling too sharp. The finish sounds less settled: spice fades quickly, anise lingers, and the whole thing turns very dry. That restraint and contrast are appealing, though the drying close keeps this from feeling fully balanced. A characterful Speyside single malt rather than an easy, rounded one.
