Johnnie Walker Black Label 12 Year Old, American & European Oak Cask, 40%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

88 / 100

The contrast between creamy toffee and persistent smoke gives this blend a clear centre, while the dark fruit and peppery spice add welcome movement. I’m especially drawn to the finish’s combination of malt, lingering smoke and subtle sweetness: it keeps the grain character in view without making the whisky sound one-dimensional. The nose also brings fresh apple and winter spice alongside the darker fruit, so there’s more than one direction to follow. A warmly inviting profile with enough smoky weight to balance its sweeter notes.
