Karuizawa 100% Malt Whisky 12 Year Old, Sherry Cask, 40%

83 / 100

The contrast here is between a light fruit-and-malt opening and a softer, sweeter palate with winter spice. That shift is easy to follow, and the spice gives the sweetness some structure. It also carries through the long, smooth finish, which is the part that best fits my preference for spice. The nose sounds relatively gentle beside that more defined finish; someone looking for a more pronounced opening might find it less compelling. For me, the appeal is in that simple progression from light fruit to sweetness and then lingering spice. It sounds balanced and approachable without needing to be especially forceful.
