The contrast between creamy caramel and butter on one side and smoky, maritime spice on the other is the part that catches my attention. The nose adds salinity and warm baking spices, while the finish brings smoke, gentle wood, medicinal notes and dark fruit. It sounds like a focused Islay malt with plenty of character, but the creamy palate keeps it from being all smoke. That balance makes it appealing to me.
