Laphroaig Williamson 8 Year Old, Hogshead Cask, Cask #224, 2012, Berry Bros & Rudd, 60.4%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

90 / 100

This has the kind of assertive Islay character that makes the finish worth focusing on: ashy smoke, lemon, pepper and salt, with seaweed and warming spice also in the mix. The nose’s brine and iodine set up a vivid contrast with the palate’s lighter sweetness of icing sugar and a hint of heavy cream. It sounds powerful without being one-note, and the long, smoky finish is a clear strength for someone drawn to lingering peat and maritime flavours.
