Macallan Speymalt 14 Year Old, Sherry Cask, 2005, Gordon & MacPhail, 43%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

88 / 100

The sherry notes have plenty of company here: orange peel and ripe banana on the nose, then pepper and roasted nuts alongside the chocolate on the palate. That mix gives it more shape than a simple sweet-and-rich style. There is a lot going on, so it may feel a little busy, but the citrus and pepper provide a useful counterpoint to the caramel and chocolate. The finish keeps that balance going with citrus, pepper and toasted oak. A thoughtful, fairly restrained take on a sherry-cask single malt.
