Midleton Very Rare 1993, Bourbon Cask, 1993, 40%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

90 / 100

That Bourbon Cask detail gives a useful anchor, while the flavour notes make their own case: vanilla and apple on the nose lead into toffee, chocolate and espresso, with coriander and fennel bringing a savoury-spiced counterpoint. Burnt orange and coffee carry through the finish, described as creamy and elegant. The sweet-to-bitter contrast sounds particularly appealing, without needing a grand theory of the cask.
