Old Forester Statesman Bourbon, New Charred Oak Cask, 47.5%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

87 / 100

This has an inviting sweet-and-spiced shape: maple syrup, cherry and vanilla appear on the nose, then the palate brings cherry syrup and cocoa alongside a sharper peppery edge. That contrast keeps it from reading as simply sweet. Caramel, cinnamon and lingering oak carry through to a medium-long finish, with orange cream and eucalyptus adding a distinctive final turn. A lively Kentucky bourbon with plenty to notice.
