Onikishi Tenbatsu 12 Year Old, 43%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

85 / 100

Soft smoke at the start, then only a whisper at the end, makes this feel more restrained than the smoky styles I tend to favor. The citrus peel and orange zest give it a clear bright thread, while malted grain, caramelized sugar and charred wood make the middle sound warmer and weightier. Oak and vanilla close it out. That balance is appealing, though the smoke seems more of an accent than the main event.
