Port Ellen for Thosop 26 Year Old, Oak Cask, Cask #222, 1983, Old Bothwell, 54.9%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

85 / 100

the appeal here is the contrast: earthy peat and smoke meet lemon and a rich fruitiness, while the finish turns dry and salty. That gives the character more shape than peat alone, and the lingering fruit keeps it from feeling one-note. It leans firmly toward smoke and coastal notes rather than the herbal or tea side i often gravitate toward, but the citrus and fruit make this an engaging direction.
