Suntory Special Reserve Open '81 Decanter, 1981, 43%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

86 / 100

The fruit character gives this blend its clearest point of appeal: dried fruits and orange on the nose carry through as orange on the palate and lasting fruits in the finish. That continuity is balanced by chocolate and coffee, with toffee, sherry and oak adding darker, more grounded notes. The medium finish brings oak bitterness and espresso, so the fruit does not leave the final impression entirely sweet. A composed, fruit-led character with some welcome contrast.
