Teaninich The Octave 10 Year Old, Amontillado Cask, Cask #674975, 2015, Duncan Taylor, 55.3%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

87 / 100

There’s a pleasing restraint to the character described here: fresh orchard fruit and soft malt lead into ripe apple, sweet cereal and polished oak, with pepper bringing a little lift. The Amontillado cask is part of the whisky’s identity, but the notes keep the focus on familiar fruit, malt and spice rather than making the cask do all the talking. That balance sounds appealing to me, especially the clean malty finish against lingering sweetness.
