Tomintoul 27 Year Old, Bourbon Cask, 2004, 40%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

88 / 100

The appeal here is the way the spice sits beside plenty of sweetness rather than taking over. Winter spice and burnt sugar on the nose lead into vanilla spice, fudge and thick cream on the palate, while the pineapple, guava and apple keep things lively. I like that contrast: warm, familiar spice against creamy, sugary notes and bright fruit. The finish is described as full and long, though the overall character sounds more rounded and sweet than sharply spicy. That makes this a relaxed, inviting style of Speyside single malt.
