Van Winkle Special Reserve 12 Year Old, Lot B, 2013, 45.2%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

88 / 100

This is a bourbon-led direction rather than a Scotch smoke showcase, and the documented character gives plenty to consider without leaning on peat. Caramel, toasted oak and dried fruit set up the sweeter side, while dark cherry and soft spice add some contrast on the palate. The long, velvety finish with vanilla and toffee warmth sounds like a satisfying close. Clear, practical appeal for someone open to styles beyond smoky whisky.
