W.L. Weller Old Weller The Original 107 Proof 7 Year Old, New Charred Oak Cask, 1978, 53.5%

A Maltiply member's tasting notes and whisky impression.

88 / 100

The most appealing contrast is the way baking spices meet brown sugar and baked apple on the palate, then carry into a finish with cinnamon, pepper, and sweet oak. That gives the sweetness some structure rather than letting it sit alone. Caramel, vanilla, and toasted oak set a clear, familiar bourbon tone, while the licorice and evergreen notes add a less expected edge. The subtle mustiness is a small counterpoint to the otherwise bold, rich character.
