Description

This Ardmore 2002 17 Year Old is an independent bottling by Hidden Spirits, an Italian bottler founded by Andrea Ferrari. Matured for 17 years in a single ex-bourbon cask, it was distilled in 2002 and bottled in 2019 at a cask strength of 52.7% ABV. Only 226 bottles were released. The whisky is non-chill filtered and showcases Ardmore's characteristic peated Highland single malt style. Hidden Spirits is known for its meticulously selected bottlings and artist-designed labels. The listed SGD 146.78 price is a useful reference, though it doesn’t settle value on its own. I’m drawn to the ginger and caramel alongside the light smoke; that mix sounds more interesting than a straightforward sweet malt.

the dried herbs and fresh-cut grass give this ardmore a welcome green edge, while grapefruit and ginger keep the character bright and lively. that sits alongside brine and light smoke, so it isn’t simply a sweet citrus malt. the slightly sour, dry finish sounds like the less easy part for my taste, but the mix of herbs, fruit and smoke makes for an interestingly balanced direction. the documented character earns a solid score, though that sharper finish keeps it from feeling like an obvious favourite.

Sweet grapefruit and apple make the character inviting, while ginger and light smoke add a firmer edge. That balance sounds appealing without feeling too simple.
