Ardmore 17 Year Old, Bourbon Cask, Cask #AM219, 2002, Hidden Spirits, 52.7%

85 / 100

the dried herbs and fresh-cut grass give this ardmore a welcome green edge, while grapefruit and ginger keep the character bright and lively. that sits alongside brine and light smoke, so it isn’t simply a sweet citrus malt. the slightly sour, dry finish sounds like the less easy part for my taste, but the mix of herbs, fruit and smoke makes for an interestingly balanced direction. the documented character earns a solid score, though that sharper finish keeps it from feeling like an obvious favourite.
