This Revival edition from Glendronach has been matured for 15 years in the finest Spanish Oloroso sherry casks. Non-chill filtered and with natural colour. Rumour has it this consists of whisky over 20 years old as this is an older 2011 bottling and the distillery was mothballed between 1996 & 2001. It is a luxuriously sherried Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky bottled at 46% ABV.

This sounds rich and sweet, with treacle and chocolate meeting fig and dried fruit. I like that the finish turns fresher with cherry and a little young red wine, rather than staying all dark and heavy.

The dark fruit is the draw here: fig jam, raisins and prunes give it a dense, jammy feel, while cherry on the finish sounds like a welcome lift.
pocketkit23 AugThe appeal here is the contrast between dense, dark sherry-led aromas and a palate built around chewy dried fruit, coffee chocolate and treacle scones. Cherry and a hint of young red wine then bring a fresher edge to the finish. That movement keeps the rich character from reading as one-note. It sits away from my usual coastal focus, but the shift from deep sweetness to bright fruit is compelling.
