The appeal is the clear contrast between big, bold peat and smoke and the sweet richness of dried fruit. Honey and citrus bring a brighter note alongside smoke and char on the nose, while sherry sweetness is described as lingering through the long, peaty finish. That gives this 16-year-old Islay single malt a character with more than one direction: smoky at its core, but balanced by fruit and sweetness rather than defined by peat alone.
Bold peat and smoke meet sweet dried-fruit richness.
The bold peat and smoke are balanced by sweet dried-fruit richness, with sherry sweetness lingering on the finish. That contrast sounds appealing, though the smoky side seems less suited to my preference for approachable styles.
