The creamy malt and candied ginger give this a clear centre, while pear skin and lychee keep the palate lively. The fruit and spice continue into a finish with red fruit and dry oak; that balance appeals to me.
The creamy malt and apricot sit well together, with ginger and cardamom adding a little spice. Baking spice and dry oak give the warming finish some structure. It’s a balanced mix that suits my taste.
The toffee and dried fruit on the nose make a friendly opening, while creamy malt and candied ginger give the palate a pleasing turn. The finish brings red fruit and baking spice alongside dry oak and dried apricot; I like that it has several layers to linger over without needing to make a grand gesture. A warm, well-connected set of flavours, with enough contrast to keep the sweeter notes from feeling one-note.
Toffee, honey and dried fruit give the nose a cosy sweetness, while candied ginger and green cardamom add a useful change of pace. The notes don’t establish a smoke level, so there’s no reason to pretend otherwise.
