There’s an appealing tension here between creamy, candied sweetness and the very woody, spicy side. Vanilla, dried apricot and candied citrus give the sweeter notes something specific to hold onto, while pepper and oak keep the palate from reading as simply dessert-like. The finish is described as long, with woody tannins and drying astringency; that sounds like a real counterweight to the richness, rather than an easy, soft ending. That balance is what makes this one interesting to me.
